Three different ways to experience K'GARI (Fraser Island)

Charter Your Own Yacht

No license required! Yes you've read that right! Before you leave for your adventure, you will be taught everything you need to know in 30 min.. or even less. There are so many hidden gems on the western side of the K'gari and the best part of having a yacht is you can explore places where 4wd's can't even go. Places like Moon Point or a more obvious option, Pelican Bank. We chartered our yacht with Fraser Island Boat Charters on the Indigo - 10 meter seaweed 1000. They are absolute legends and I couldn't recommend them more!

Hot tip: Try and book between late July to early Novemeber because its whale season!

Due to my recent Suzuki Jimny purchase, I have been camping and 4WD obsessed! I was so excited to take it to the worlds largest sand island and yes Jimmy killed it! Camping and 4wding on Fraser Island is something else and you won't run out of things to do... There is a high chance you will see a Dingo so just remember not to feed them. They are wild and can be dangerous.
Getting there with your 4WD: You have two two barge options, Hervey Bay or Rainbow Beach (Inskip Point).
Prices: Like most places, you will need to get a camping permit. If you are leaving from Rainbow Beach, I recommend purchasing your permit and ferry ticket from the Shell Servo. You can purchase the permit online but we found that the website was a pain.
- Vehicle access permit (required before entering the island): 1 month or less = $54.55
- Inskip Point - Manta Ray Fraser Island Barge: $130 return (includes passengers) - roughly 10 minute journey,
- Hervey Bay - Kingfisher Bay Ferry: Standard 4WD off-peak $190 return | peak $215
- Camping bookings and fees - $6.85 per person per night, or $27.40 per family per night. Click HERE for more pricing and booking options.

Campsites: You can find the Beach camping zone map HERE. If there's an option to camp on the beach, that's where I'll be. We stayed at Awinya Creek (pictured below) which is the perfect spot with freshwater.

Camping | 4WDing

There are only a few places you can stay on the Island but the only place that I've been lucky to experience is Kingfisher Bay Resort. It's not necessary for you to have a 4wd but if you have one, I recommend bringing it. There is an option to hire one on the Island or you can book all kinds of cruises and tours with the resort.

There are so many great spots you must checkout when you stay here like the sunset bar, the pool and the spa. You can find my full blog with Kingfisher Bay Resort HERE
